Shabby Apple Cider

Happy Tuesday! I know, the last time I did a Tuesday Treat it was a dress and here we go with another dress, but I couldn't resist. This is the dress that I got after winning the Shabby Apple gift certificate earlier this summer. I love it! It is so comfortable and the cut is super flattering. I ordered a pencil skirt last month that is super-sharp and I keep finding more beautiful clothes that I want from Shabby Apple.

I love the purple zipper up the back too!
My girlie wanted to pose too and show off her smiley outfit.

Shabby Apple also donates a portion of the sale proceeds to provide micro-loans to the world's working poor. Pretty cool.

Do you have anything from Shabby Apple? What is your favorite item they carry?

Tuesday's Treats: Custom made Dress

Hello, lovelies. This is the very first piece of apparel I have ever sewed for myself. The only other clothing I sewed was a pillowcase dress for a friend's baby. I am so proud of myself for making a dress that I can actually wear. It is not perfect; The buttonholes are a little big, uneven, and not quite straight, but it is my first dress, so I won't beat myself up about it. It is from the Vintage Vogue 2960 pattern.

I learned so much about proper fit and alteration of pattern while making this dress with the help of The New Complete Guide to Sewing (TNCGTS). The book is amazing. Apparently, I have very straight posture, so the back was gapping. You can see that I learned how to add a tuck to prevent the gapping. I truly am a beginning sewer, so even the most basic of instructions on the pattern would make me say, "Huh?" I just grabbed TNCGTS and found very clear illustrations and instructions so that I could do everything required to make this dress. I highly recommend the book to any beginning sewers or anyone who wants to start sewing.

Like I said, this is the first dress I sewed for myself and it has big imperfections, but I love it. And it is super twirly. I can't wait to wear it for my friend's wedding next month.

Tuesday's Treats: Gingher Charlene dressmaker's shears

I bought these at Joann's a couple of years ago. I could have gotten the boring, but utilitarian shears with the silver metal handles for a few bucks less. But look at how pretty the purple floral handles are!

I mentioned that I have been sewing my first dress ever and I'm almost finished. Cutting out the fabric for the dress would have been tedious except that I could hold these (very sharp) beauties in my hand for the cutting. I even enjoy just looking at them.

Are there any odd things that you just love or that thrill you too?

Check out some other treats today at the Tuesday's Treats linkup.
